How To Pitch A Morning Show

“Can you talk to your bosses and have them interviewed?” he asked.

I had to tell him that it doesn’t work that way and gave him the advice I’m about to give you.

  • Is this the right show for me and my product?
  • Why should I as a producer care?
  • Why should my audience care?
  • Why now?
  • How will this help people?

Morning show producers get bombarded with e-mails. You’re competing with other PR pitches, breaking news emails, planning emails, booking emails and random junk that gets sent over the course of the day.

Here at Morning Show Coach, we offer consulting services for people and companies on how to best pitch a morning show. You can email us for more information.

Here’s a short list of what you NEED TO KNOW when pitching a show like TODAY or GOOD MORNING AMERICA:

KEEP IT SHORT

I’ve got emails from publicists that are way too long that feature bullet points longer than pages in a book. Keep it short, simple and to the point.

WHY IS THIS RELEVANT?

Are you pitching a hard news segment? Is it a fluff segment? Is there a celebrity tie-in? How can you spin yourself into the news cycle? Show me why this pitch is relevant.

Also, keep in mind that producers are constantly looking for pitches and story ideas. What makes your pitch compelling and relevant?

WHAT ELEMENTS ARE AVAILABLE?

TV is a visual medium and as a producer, I am always thinking of how I am going to tell a story with visuals. You need to have elements with your pitch. It can be a link to a page that features handout video, high res still photos, graphics, and a link to a page to know more.

Here at Morning Show Coach, we can help you package a pitch that will get noticed by morning show producers. Shoot us an email or give us a call. We’re here to help!
